Helpful program that can teach you the basics but offers a limited amount of content
The application’s most notable feature is the series of YouTube videos it provides, each covering a specific subject. You can watch them in the main window, but it is also possible to open them in a web browser of your choice.
However, a rather limited number of clips is currently available, although more are bound to be added in the future. Naturally, an Internet connection is required if you want to watch the videos, as they are not saved locally.
The program also includes a module that provides you with translations for some common English words or phrases. Sound recordings of their pronunciations are likely to be included in later versions, but they are not available at present.
Additionally, you can take a quiz to test your existing knowledge once you feel you have mastered a certain category.
Offers a fairly limited array of features and a disappointing user interface
It is clear that Learn Afrikaans with Shaun Roselt is still in the early stages of development, so it is understandable that many features have yet to be implemented. However, it will only become a helpful tool once more resources are added.
The interface is also not particularly impressive, especially if you are accustomed to modern, streamlined applications. Its layout is simple enough, but it looks rather outdated, and the program is always opened in full-screen mode, which can get quite irritating.
Promising application that still needs many improvements
In conclusion, Learn Afrikaans with Shaun Roselt is an application that could prove to be very useful once more videos and other learning materials are added. At the moment, it only covers the basics, but those who wish to study Afrikaans would do well to keep an eye out for future releases.
